Become one of our 100 Champions
Wanted: 100 Champions
A unique opportunity for your company to name a community pavilion for only £500.
What: The chance for the new Blackhorse Sports Pavilion to be named after your business.
How: The school will collect 100 donations of £500 from 100 local champion businesses. Once 100 sponsors has been found, a lottery will be drawn with the winner getting to name the pavilion. All other sponsors will also have a sponsorship plaque on the side of the building.
When: We are hoping to reach our 100 champions sponsor target by March 2022, so that our pavilion can be opened (by the winner) in time for the ten year anniversary of London 2012 Olympics.
About our school:
Blackhorse Primary school is known as one of the highest achieving schools in terms of sports in the South West.
To date our (ostentatiously displayed) trophy cabinet currently holds 106 trophies from 42 different sports. 75 of these are for athletics and Cross-country. Girls’ trophies outnumber the boys’ – something we link to our girls bucking the national trend in areas such as maths where they don’t lag behind the boys. These girls can.
All these trophies were won in the last decade.
We have had 10 children go on to run in the national cross-country competition at Parliament Hill, two children who went on to be picked up by UK Athletics and one, Tom Wilstead, who – having won a sports scholarship to a prestigious private school on the back of his sport at primary school – has just been signed to Bristol Bears RFC first team. Our first alumni to become a professional athlete. Many of these young people return in their teenage years to help coach the many extra-curricular sports clubs.
About the pavilion:
As well as the school field on the main school site, the school also owns the field beyond the main Emersons Green Football Club field, which was the location of the old school before it was re-built. This field is currently inaccessible to the school as it has no facilities.
In 2019 the school secured £60,000 from the Sugar Tax scheme to build a sports pavilion on the site which would allow the school to use this playing field once again during the school day, but would also be made available to sports clubs (including Emersons Green FC) on evenings and weekends.
The school has been supported by South Gloucestershire Council, who are keen for the school to develop the site as a community resource, with plans and permissions well advanced.
The school now needs just £50,000 to complete the funding and to build the pavilion.
And you can be part of this adventure!
About the sponsorship opportunity
The school is going to run a similar sponsorship lottery opportunity to Bristol Rovers. We are seeking to secure £500 donations from 100 local businesses or individuals. We school won’t ask any money to be handed over until all 100 local champions have been found.
Whilst the 100 champions are being found, those companies who have already made a pledge will have their details published on the school website, in our newsletter and on a special fund-raising banner in the school.
Once we have the 100 champions, we will hold a special evening lottery event, where the winning company will be drawn.
What I will get for my £500 donation
First and foremost, the chance for the Blackhorse Pavilion to be named after your company e.g. ‘The Blackhorse [your company name] pavilion’. With your company also having access to a 1m2 advertising board on the front of the building – for just £500. There will also be a sign on Blackhorse Lane advertising the Pavilion – again including your company name and details.
ALL the 100 companies who enter the lottery and donate £500 will be named on our website and on a fundraising display in school BEFORE you need to hand over any money, which the 100 champions are found. After the lottery, everyone who has made a donation will receive an advertising plaque on the side of the pavilion, will be named as one of the ‘100 champions’, and given a certificate and a plaque/ vehicle sticker celebrating their contribution to this community, to display in their place of work. They will also benefit from the publicity surrounding the opening of this exciting community resource.
