For 15 minutes a day, four days a week, KS2 will take part in Big Maths. Each term, teachers must teach the new skills for the CLIC and the wider maths for their year group. These should be taught on alternative weeks. Should there be any extra sessions after this, teachers should either teach the other recommended skills or use the learning gaps to teach these skills. Finally, once a week, children must complete a SAFE, CLIC and Learn It’s test in order to help teachers identify any gaps in the children’s knowledge.
These sessions are structured so that on a Monday, children are introduced to 2 new skills. On Tuesday and Wednesday, they practice these skills, before moving on to the stretch and challenge on Thursday, if they are ready. This work will be completed on a whiteboard. The CLIC test should then be done on a Friday.
These sessions are structured so that on Monday children are introduced to several related new skills. Tuesday-Thursday these skills are then practiced using the slides from Big Maths.
