Which instrument is best for my child?

If your child is interested in playing an instrument but isn’t sure which one, this website has lots of information about the different instruments available to learn and you can see them all being played:

It’s best to be guided by what your child has showed an interest in, but if you’re not sure whether a particular instrument would be suitable for your child, please speak to Miss Phillips.  Alternatively, there is more information on this website:

How do I arrange lessons?

Some lessons are booked via school and others are arranged directly with the instrumental teacher.  We usually offer lessons from Year 3 upwards. Contact the office in the first instance if you are interested in booking a place for your child.

How will lessons happen in September?

We are currently looking at how lessons will be running in September 2020. Currently (as of June 2020) we expect that most lessons will take place in school with the instrumental teacher, subject to a safety assessment nearer the time.  Some lessons may take place virtually with the children in school and teacher teaching remotely.  Children generally receive lessons in groups of two at a time but individual tuition will also be available.

What does it cost?

Parents need to pay in advance for a whole term. Lessons cost approximately £6.00 per week for a twenty minute lesson, based on 2 pupils sharing a lesson (individual lessons are slightly more). Instruments can be hired from South Gloucestershire Music Hub for between £20 and £25 per term.  For the first time this year, we are pleased to be able to offer a small number of bursaries to cover the cost of music lessons for pupils who otherwise would not be able to afford to take them.  Please contact the office in the first instance if you think your child would qualify.
