OFSTED report published
As you will be aware, OFSTED visited the school on 20th February 2018 to complete short Section 8 (one day) inspection, which is now the norm for schools that were judged to be ‘Good’ at the last inspection.
As we mentioned in a newsletter a couple of weeks ago, Section 8 inspections can’t ‘upgrade’ a school to Outstanding and, at best, can only order a full Section 5 Inspection (which can change the grade) to take place within two years. This was what we were aiming for and what we, our School Improvement Officer and the Governors felt was what Blackhorse deserved given its current high performance.
Sadly, the inspector who visited could not be persuaded of this and therefore the school will not be getting an early full inspection where we would have the chance to demonstrate that we are now an Outstanding school. The school therefore keeps its previous full inspection judgements which are:
Behaviour & Safety - Outstanding
Leadership & Management - Outstanding
Resource Base & Inclusion - Outstanding
Curriculum - Outstanding
Teaching & Learning - Good
Standards - Good
Whilst this is disappointing for us as a staff (we aim for excellence and anything less isn’t what we aspire to) the report does highlight lots of the things which we know make Blackhorse a great school to work in and go to. More importantly, it won’t change our desire to be the best school in the world and we will continue to work extremely hard with this aim in mind.
We’re sorry we couldn’t give you the Outstanding judgement from OFSTED which we think your children deserve; we’ll keep trying until we get there.
