Year 6 shine at PGL

This week our Year 6 children demonstrated all the values of a Blackhorse Champion during their residential at PGL Liddington.  Since arriving on Monday and throwing themselves into the first challenge, they have worked well as a group and tackled everything put in front of them.

They have demonstrated great bravery throughout the week as they climbed various challenges, zipped and abseiled from towers, and tested their resolve by leaping for a trapeze suspended high above the floor.

It has been fantastic to see the teamwork and camaraderie they have developed when facing challenges. Even the room inspection had them begging the staff to borrow the vacuum to make their rooms hit the grade.

When not going up or coming down, they have taken to the water in canoes (and even into the water in some cases), taken part in a giant game of archery tag and discovered orienteering skills they didn't know they had.  Ethan and Mr Maxted even managed to complete the course, a feat Mr Maxted is very proud of.

They have shown great independence throughout the week and we are very proud of them all.

This would not have been possible without the energy, care and dedication the staff have put in for the five days.  We would like to thank Meg Mellish, Ben Maxted, Charlie Fido, Olivia Finn and Michelle Melton for providing such a fabulous experience for the children creating memories that will last a lifetime.

Our Blackhorse Values

The children have been revisiting our school values of Bravery, Pride, Respect and Success during assemblies this term.

Each week we have focussed on a different value and discussed how we can live these values every day.

It has been great to hear the children give examples of when they have observed their friends demonstrating the values. They talked about their friends doing the right thing when nobody is looking and overcoming tricky questions in maths   It was lovely to hear them talk positively about the handwriting and presentation in their friends books and how they find their friends encouraging during breaktime..

Harvest Service and collection

We will be holding our annual Harvest service on Thursday 15th October at 9:15am.  Once again we would like to invite the parents of children in Year 2 to come and watch the assembly.  Year 2 are currently learning a story to recite as part of the service.

We recognise the difficulties many families in our community are facing in the current climate and have chosen to collect provisions for the Mangotsfield Foodbank.

They are particularly looking for donations of the following:

  • Tinned veg
  • Instant mash/tinned potatoes
  • Tomato based cooking sauces
  • Tinned fruit
  • Tinned and packet custard
  • Rice pudding
  • Long life fruit juice
  • Orange or blackcurrant squash
  • Washing up liquid
  • Deoderant

Please bring this into school during the week commencing 12th October.  Thank you all so much for your kind support.

Our Champions this week

Our Year 6 children are our Champions this week for the bravery they have demonstrated whilst away from home.  Staying away for 5 days is not an easy feat but the children have taken it in their stride.  They have also shown a great attitude to tackling the challenges in front of them with a smile on their face.  Well done Year 6.

Attendance Champions

An extra special well done to the children in Elm who maintain their 100% start to the school year as we come to the end of week 5.

Rowan class also achieved a very impressive 99.2% this week, closely followed by Sycamore and Beech with 98.9%.
