Reception settling in well

Our Reception children are enjoying their start to school, making new friends and getting to grips with new routines.

It is great to see them coming into school in the morning with smiles on their faces ready to start the day.  They have learnt where their carpet space is and are showing excellent listening skills during carpet time.

The nice weather has enabled them to explore the outdoor environment, with the mud kitchen and sandpit proving very popular.

The reception team are excited about the year ahead and have plenty of fun learning experiences for the children to look forward to.

Year 5 enjoying the Joy of Moving Project

Bristol Rovers Community Trust are visiting our Year 5 children every Wednesday afternoon.

The Joy of Moving project is funded by the EFL Trust and focusses on teaching the children about living a healthy lifestyle.  There are classroom sessions running alongside a PE lesson.  The sessions focus on physical activity, diet, nutrition and hydration.

The children are thoroughly enjoying the sessions run by coaches from the community trust.  The project continues for the rest of the term.

New PTA Committee

At last night's AGM, the PTA elected a new committee for the coming year and attracted new members and recruited more happy helpers.

The PTA work hard organising events to bring the community together whilst raising much-needed funds for the school. These valuable donations enable the school to continue to offer the extensive opportunities and exciting extras that make the school such a fantastic place to learn.

Last year, the events they organised  made a total profit of £15,426.  They used their funds to enable the school to install the Tanglewood Island climbing frame in the playground, which has proved very popular with the children.

The new committee are as follows: Chair Daisy Kington-Millar

Treasurer Tiesha Robb & Sadie O'Callaghan

Secretary: Natalie Anderson & Jen Dudfield

The new committee members are Liz Sanigar, Helen Thorpe, Helen Thompson, Rachel Hutchinson.

Attendance Champions

Sycamore and Elm maintain their 100% start to the school year, which is very impressive.  Ash, Beech, Willow and Poplar all sit at 99% and five other classes exceed our target of 97%.

It can be tricky deciding whether to keep your child off school when they are unwell.

There are government guidelines for schools that state when children should be kept off and when they shouldn't.  The NHS offer a handy guide to support parents in making the decision.

Please do ring the absence line to let us know if your child is unwell and not attending school.

This week's Champions

Each week, the staff nominate one child per class who has been a model pupil, demonstrating the values which we look for in Champion Learners!

Our Blackhorse Champion

Respect is our focus this week and Krisha in Elm has been chosen as our Champion.

Miss Bettany writes'Since starting in Year 3, Krisha has already shown everyone what it means to be a Blackhorse Champion.  She is a role model to her peers and has set a wonderful example to everyone in Elm. She consistently goes above and beyond in every aspect of her learning and school life, approaching everything with enthusiasm, kindness and a fantastic attitude. Since joining Elm Class, numerous members of staff have already taken the time to comment on her excellent behaviour, impeccable manners and respectful nature. Krisha is a pleasure to teach and an absolute delight to have in our classroom. Well done Krisha!
