Welcome to Our New Starters 2020

Hello and Welcome

If you are a Parent/Carer with a pupil starting school in September 2020 then you have come to the right place on our school website. From now until the Autumn Term, this page will be dedicated to supporting you and your child as they transition into school.

We have set up a New Reception video channel (see link below) which will offer tours of the Reception classrooms and outside area. We will use this channel to share videos of the staff reading stories so that your children can begin familiarising themselves with the adults who will be working with them at school in September. There is also a ‘welcome’ video for the grown-ups which we recommend that you watch and a ‘welcome’ video for the children.

We understand that you may have an array of feelings and emotions linked to your child starting school, whether they are your first, last or somewhere in between, and we are here to support you all through this transition. We recognise also that your emotions, most likely your concerns and worries, are likely to be heightened as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic and again we are here to support you and your child through this.

Transition Arrangements

We are currently unable to follow the transition schedule that we normally would and that we shared with you when you were visiting the school. We do, however, still want to ensure that we do everything we can to support you and your child as they begin their school journey.

In order to support your child's transition into school, we will be inviting you to a 'New Parents Evening' so that you can visit us at school and meet some of the staff, as well as the Reception Teachers. We are holding four meetings so that we can keep the numbers at each meeting low and you will be invited to attend one of them. We are hoping that the weather will be kind to us so that we can hold the meetings outside. In the event of poor weather we may have to hold the meetings online via Zoom.

Before the summer holiday begins, you will receive information about which class your child is in and who their teacher will be. You will have the opportunity to meet your child's class teacher and teaching assistant via Zoom. Times will be issued and the meetings will take place w/b 13/07/2020. You will also receive a photo book with images of the school and classroom that can be shared over the summer.

The transition plan for September, which may have to change depending on new guidance as it is released, is outlined below. You will receive a more detailed plan  before the summer holiday begins.

Week 1 (w/b 31/08/2020) - Induction visits to school in small groups

Week 2 (w/b 7/09/2020) - Part-time attendance with children attending either mornings or afternoons

Week 3 (w/b 14/09/2020) - Part-time attendance with pupils attending the opposite morning or afternoon session

Week 4 (w/b 21/09/2020) - All children attend for the morning and stay for lunch. Parent/teacher/child interviews will be offered for the afternoon slots to allow discussion about how your child is settling.

Week 5 (w/b 28/09/2020) - All children to attend full-time
