Lunch Menus
Blackhorse provides a range of healthy hot and cold school meals each day which are completely free to all the children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. For all other children the cost is £2.75 per day.
*We are a nut free school, so please do not send any food items in containing nuts*
Meals need to be BOOKED and PAID for in advance via the Arbor App, details of which can be found on the online payments page and below the menus on this page.
Each day the children can choose from the following
- A traditional/ vegetarian hot meal;
- A baked potato with a daily choice of fillings (Cheese, Baked Beans, Tuna);
- Tomato pasta with or without cheese
- A cheese, ham or tuna wrap with salad

Dietary Requirements
If your child has any special dietary requirements please complete the form below and return to the school office via email so that we can let our kitchen staff know about this.
Do you think your child may be entitled to free school meals?
This is not the same as the Universal Free School Meals provided by the Government for Children in Reception, Year 1 & Year 2.
Pupil Premium funding is extra money paid direct to schools for each child who is eligible for free school meals due to the household being on a low income. It is used to support your child’s education by funding valuable support like extra tuition, additional teaching staff or after school activities.
Under current rules, your child might be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:
- Income Support
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- the guaranteed element of Pension Credit
- Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)
- Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit
- Universal Credit
Important Information: Free School Meals (FSM) – 2026/27
From September 2026, there are some changes to Free School Meals (FSM) that may affect your child.
What is changing?
The Government is expanding Free School Meal eligibility so that more families may qualify, particularly those receiving Universal Credit.
At the same time, existing protections are ending, which means eligibility will be reviewed.
Important information for parents of younger children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2)
All children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will continue to receive Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).
- This is not changing. Your child will still receive a free meal every day.
However, if eligible, we still strongly encourage all families to apply, even if your child is already receives Universal Infant Free School Meals (UIFSM).
This is because:
- Schools receive additional funding (Pupil Premium) if your child is eligible
- This funding is used to support your child’s education and opportunities
NOTE: Applying will not affect your child’s UIFSM entitlement — they will still receive free meals regardless.
What this means for all families
- Your child’s eligibility for FSM may be reviewed before the new academic year
- If you are not currently registered, you may now be eligible under the new criteria
- If your circumstances have changed, we encourage you to apply
What you need to do
- If you already receive FSM, you may not need to take action immediately
- If you are unsure whether you qualify, we encourage you to apply and are happy to support you have any questions or concerns.
